Customer-focused and lean – BBGS trains project managers for database-driven project management with Primavera

BBGS is an engineering and service company operating across Europe to provide construction and operation of real estate and infrastructure to various US government agencies. The customers’ requirements are enormously complex, and projects must be carried out with maximum transparency and in accordance with stringent American and European standards. That’s precisely where BBGS comes in, with its many years of specialist expertise. The company meets these demanding requirements with support from the project control software ‘Primavera P6’ from Oracle. But the success of a project requires more than just a digital tool – knowing how to use it is just as important. To achieve this, BBGS construction managers have received continuous, in-house, training over the past two years on using Primavera.

The project plans created with Primavera are used to measure the construction progress, to generate invoices and to execute payments. BBGS’ intention is for all its project managers to be able to understand and operate P6, thus allowing them to work with ‘key users’, the Primavera specialists, to create correct documentation. This is especially beneficial in the case of unplanned events such as construction time extensions as part of change management.

Europe-wide training initiative between 2019 and 2021

Key users at the company’s principal locations in Kaiserslautern, Brussels and Vicenza can handle ‘special assignments’ with their extensive expertise. Primavera specialists in Kaiserslautern have been responsible for organising internal training sessions for colleagues, with several one-day in-house seminars arranged to train site managers in ‘standard tasks’ in Primavera. Training courses have been held in Chièvres and Zutendaal (Belgium), Kaiserslautern (Germany), Vicenza, Livorno (near Pisa) and Catania in Sicily (Italy).

The seminars have given colleagues the opportunity to learn the ropes of the software and to understand how to use P6 in connection with the specific needs of the client.
