New contract for the renewal of electrical infrastructure at Eygelshoven Base

Since 2016, an Army Prepositioned Stock (APS) depot of the U.S. Army Europe has been located in Eygelshoven, the Netherlands. Equipment is stored in air-conditioned warehouses with an area of almost 42,000 m2 as well as on more than 4,600 m2 of paved parking. In February 2023, BBGS in Kaiserslautern, Germany, was awarded the contract to renew the power grid including lines, subdistributions and transformer stations in the property.

Awarded as a design-bid-build project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) awarded the contract as a design-bid-build project to the BBGS team in Kaiserslautern. The work will be performed in conjunction with the Belgian team of BBGS Benelux srl and must be completed within 540 days of the start of construction. BBGS has been working for the Eygelshoven base since 2018. The fact that, without exception, all finished projects to date have been completed on time and in the required quality was a key reason for the contract award, in addition to the detailed and economical calculation. Another strength of BBGS, especially for contracts for the U.S. government agencies in Europe, is the lean project management with only one central contact person who is responsible for the coordination of all trades as well as the reliable project management with Primavera software.

Strict environmental requirements

During the construction work itself, the use of generators ensures that electricity is permanently available in all storage buildings. Strict environmental regulations in the Netherlands must also be respected. For example, the construction areas are surrounded by amphibian protection screens which has to be maintained during entire construction period.
