Construction site at the military training area Drawsko Pomorskie

The Drawsko Pomorskie Training Area (DPTA) in northwestern Poland is one of the largest military training areas in Europe. In addition to the Polish military, NATO and US Army units also use the site. By order of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Polish BBGS team constructed a single-story gymnasium for US Army military personnel stationed at the base. The works took place between September 2020 and August 2022. The building, with external dimensions of approx. 25 x 34 m, houses a large training room, sanitary rooms, an administrator's office, technical and electrical rooms, and a server room. A heat pump with ventilation system was installed for the most energy-efficient heating, cooling and fresh air supply. Project management was carried out with Primavera P6, and construction planning with the BIM method.

Close detail coordination with the customer resulted in punctual handover

BBGS's many years of expertise in projects for the US Army came in handy during the construction of the sports hall. For example, working on a military training area with heavy traffic of military vehicles and exercise operations requires special permits and execution times for sewer and power connection work.

To ensure that construction was completed on time, the client paid meticulous attention to adherence to time milestones and the seamless exchange of information between all parties involved. The BBGS team also left nothing to chance when it came to coordinating the individual project steps and planning the activities. The customer particularly appreciated the attention to detail and transparent, closely timed communication on the part of BBGS.

Successful teamwork of the PORR family

The design was developed in close cooperation between the Design Manager of BBGS in Germany and the Project Manager of BBGS in Poland. This cooperation was immensely valuable both in setting standards during project planning and during the project evaluation process and presentation to the client. Especially during procurement in the area of the exterior cladding of the building and the earth structures, the colleagues from PORR SA (Poland) were there to help, as the search for subcontractors in the sparsely populated area proved to be very difficult.
